Celebrating Magna Carta in Canterbury

Plans are in progress to celebrate 800 years since the sealing of the Magna Carta. Canterbury is one of the five designated ‘Magna Carta Towns’ in England, alongside Runnymede, the City of London, St Albans and Bury St Edmunds, because of the important role played by Archbishop Stephen Langton in the negotiations preceding Magna Carta.Many exciting events are being planned including:

An exhibition on ‘Canterbury in the Age of Magna Carta’ at the Beaney Royal Museum from 6th June to 6th September

A conference at Canterbury Christ Church University on 6th June

A special service at the Cathedral on 13th June

Events for children at the Cathedral and at the Marlowe Theatre
