Ptolemy Dean on ‘The Importance Of Good Design’ and Presentation of the Canterbury Society Design Awards

The Design Awards are an exciting new venture for the Canterbury Society. The aim is to highlight excellence in the built environment and to encourage an appreciation of good design. Nominations could be for new buildings, for the renovation or extension of an old building or for improvements to the public realm, including parks and gardens.

Members of the public have been invited to nominate buildings or developments which they would like to see given an Award. Not all nominations will receive Awards, but all will be displayed at the award-giving ceremony. There will be an exhibition featuring all the entries, which include a wide variety of projects, from very large to quite small.

The Awards will be presented by Ptolemy Dean, the President of the Canterbury Society and a distinguished conservation architect, who is also well known for his appearances on two BBC television series, Restoration and The Perfect Village. Refreshments will be provided and everyone will be very welcome.

The Canterbury Society campaigns to enhance the quality of the environment in the city. We aim to preserve and enhance Canterbury’s architecture and urban environment, its green spaces and its transport system, and to combat litter, graffiti and night-time disturbance. We also care deeply about jobs and prosperity, community cohesion and good governance in the city. We provide a focus and a forum for those who love Canterbury, and give people a voice on issues which matter.
